Privacy Policy

Introduction

Welcome to Piyuo Counter ("App"), provided by Piyuo ("we," "us," "our"). Effective Date: July 16, 2026. Piyuo Counter uses your device's camera and an on-device AI model to count pedestrians and vehicles. Privacy is central to the App's design: video, images, and audio are processed only on your device and never leave it. This policy explains how we handle data both for people who operate the App ("Operators") and for pedestrians/vehicles the camera happens to see ("Passersby").

How the App Processes Camera Data

The App uses on-device AI to detect and track pedestrians and vehicles in real time for counting purposes. Video frames are processed only in memory and are immediately discarded after analysis. The App does not store or transmit video, images, audio, or other raw camera data. The App is designed for anonymous object counting rather than identifying individuals, and it does not store or transmit biometric information or facial recognition data.

Aggregated Foot Traffic Data ("Payloads")

Instead of tracking individuals in real time, the App summarizes results into a "Payload" every 5 minutes — for example, 7:00–7:05 AM: 2 passersby, 1 entry, 1 exit, average dwell time 22 seconds. A Payload contains only these aggregated, anonymous statistics; it never contains video, images, audio, biometric data, or GPS/location data of any kind, and cannot identify any specific person. The App does not collect or upload GPS coordinates or device location information. User-defined labels, such as an optional Interest Area name, are configuration data created by the Operator and are not used to determine the physical location of the camera. We do not integrate any third-party analytics or advertising services, and we never sell or share this data with advertisers or other third parties. In addition, the App may automatically collect anonymous crash reports and usage logs to help us fix bugs and improve app reliability. A crash report includes the error message and stack trace when a feature has a problem. A usage log simply records which features are used — for example, testing the camera or uploading to a custom server — without identifying you personally. Neither of these reports is related to the foot-traffic data described above, or to anything collected by the Piyuo Counter camera and AI features, and neither is shared with advertisers or other third parties.

Uploading, Local Mode & Retention

Unless [Local Device Only] mode is on, the App uploads accumulated Payloads once per hour (e.g. all 12 Payloads from 1:00–2:00 AM upload together at 2:00 AM); if upload fails, Payloads stay on the device and retry next cycle. You choose the destination: Piyuo Cloud (piyuo.com), which retains data for 1 month unless you subscribe for longer retention, or your own private server, whose retention is entirely up to you — in that case we never receive or access your data. [Local Device Only] mode means exactly that: even the summarized, anonymous foot traffic Payloads never leave your device — not to Piyuo Cloud, not to your own server, not anywhere. They simply stay on your device for 7 days and are then automatically deleted. Data in transit to Piyuo Cloud is encrypted; data on your device is protected by your device's own security.

Children's Privacy & Your Rights

The App is designed so that it does not identify Passersby: camera data is processed only in real time and discarded, and uploaded foot-traffic data is limited to anonymous aggregated statistics. Because of this, the App does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children under 13 (or under 16 in some EU countries), consistent with COPPA, GDPR, and similar laws. For the same reason, GDPR-style rights (access, correction, deletion) generally do not apply to Passersby, since we hold no data that could identify them. If an Operator chooses to create a Piyuo Cloud account or subscribe to paid services, we collect only the information necessary to provide those services. If you deploy the App in a public space, you (the Operator) remain responsible for any local notice/signage requirements for camera use at that location.

Optional Piyuo Cloud Services

Using Piyuo Counter does not require a Piyuo Cloud account. You may use Local Device Only mode or an anonymous Piyuo Cloud URL without creating an account. If you choose to create a Piyuo Cloud account, we collect the information needed to provide the service, such as your email address and account credentials. If you subscribe to a paid plan, we also retain subscription and billing records to provide the service and process payments. The App does not upload device names, camera names, or GPS/location information. If you choose to name an Interest Area (for example, "Store Front"), that name is uploaded only so the corresponding aggregated statistics can be identified in Piyuo Cloud. Interest Area names are optional and chosen by you.
